Social Media: Key Player in Brand Identity

In the process of getting your business valuable attention and your name out there, it is important you use the essential tools available to spread news about your brand. As things are beginning to spread all over the Internet, social networks are a great tool to use. We live in an extremely technological world and have many online resources that can be very beneficial to a brands image or identity. With online forums such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram, it is easy for a brand to be seen or heard in the viral Internet world. When used correctly, social media can get other people talking about your brand, tweeting about it, or in some cases re-posting and repining pictures and post to their friends. The best part about using these social forums is that you can monitor what is being talked about or promoted among your followers. Since a communication specialist or social media strategist is usually appointed by a company, they are in charge of what is being posted on the internet, meaning they are in complete control of promotion for the brand.

In a recent Forbes article by Alice Brennan about Social Media in Branded Content, Shane Snow, the cofounder of Contently, a publishing startup commented on the importance of social media in our current time:

“The panel talked about branded content in social media as a given, whereas a year ago there would have been a debate about its merits.”

In the article Snow also comments on social media stating:

Using owned media to drive social consumers back to your own property, then building loyalty through content people actually want — as opposed to commercials that interrupt them — is going to disrupt the online marketing industry in a big way.

The article also gives a few pointers on what to do when you begin creating your social media:

-Develop a voice

-Embrace the nuances

-Be seen at all the right parties

-Get it out there

-Tailor content to the social media platform

If you are able to follow along with these steps, you will be able to create a great Social Media presence that can help further your company’s voice. Using forums like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram is a simple, helpful way to further talk about your brand.

  1. I definitely agree that using social media to engage the consumer on a level that interests them versus commercials will drastically change the online market. It will be interesting to see the reaction of companies to this shift and how they handle future marketing initiatives.
